Artichoke – Imperial Star – Select Organic

Artichoke – Imperial Star is a certified organic globe artichoke with rounded green heads tipped purple. Eden Seeds describes it as nearly spineless, sweet and tender, with a comparatively early crop of around 85–95 days under suitable conditions.

Growing notes

Globe artichokes are vigorous perennial plants that prefer well-drained, well-limed soil. Plant after frost and allow plenty of room for mature plants. Harvest buds while the heads are firm, full and tightly closed.

Harvest & maintenance

Harvest the buds before the bracts open. After cropping, cut plants back and feed with compost or well-rotted manure, then mulch. Artichokes can remain productive for several years when grown in suitable conditions.
