A classic long-fruited eggplant with dark purple fruit growing to around 25cm long and 8cm wide. Eden Seeds notes this variety was described in 1857 and reaches harvest in around 70–78 days.

Growing notes: Sow in warm conditions; eggplants need a long growing season. Seed can be started indoors up to 8 weeks before transplanting. Harden plants for about a week before setting them out in full sun. Regular picking encourages continued production.

Sowing guide: Plant 50–80cm apart, rows 80–90cm apart, sow 0.5–0.8cm deep. Best soil temperature 24–32°C.
