A European heirloom cos lettuce dating from the 1800s, also known as Brown Romaine. It produces large flat leaves ranging from green through bronze to deep red and combines quick growth with cold tolerance and good heat resistance when well watered.

Growing notes: Grow in rich, well-drained soil near neutral pH and keep consistently watered, particularly during warmer conditions.

Sowing guide: Plant 20–30cm apart, rows 35–50cm apart, sow about 0.6cm deep. Best soil temperature 8–27°C.
