Insects such as crickets, mealworms, cockroaches, and woodies are commonly fed in the diet of reptiles. Wild insects have a naturally diverse diet, however, insects bred commercially may lack important nutrients such as calcium and vitamins, due to a less diverse diet than those raised in their natural environment. Gut loading insects is common practice to help increase the nutritional value of the insects fed to lizards, snakes, turtles, and frogs.
